Milwaukee Public Schools at Troubadour Bakery!

For the second year in a row, Milwaukee Public Schools is teaming up with Troubadour Bakery to expand their curriculum and get to know the business side of bakery life!

In the fall of 2018, Bay View High School's ProStart® Culinary class visited our Bay View bakery with their teacher Ms. Simms. Taking time to learn about the roles our coworkers and customers play and to sample some Troubadour treats. ProStart® is a nationwide curriculum and mentoring program designed to introduce high school students to the skills needed for careers in the restaurant and foodservice industry. The class returned in January 2019 to fill, roll, proof, bake, and glaze their favorite bakery product, Cinnamon Rolls! We loved having Ms. Simms and her class join us on the production floor and look forward to more classes this winter.

We also recently hosted some little bakers-in-training - four second-grade classes from Allen-Field Elementary in Bay View. This has been established as an annual school event and is available for all second grade classes, including bilingual students. Our bakery team is especially happy to welcome them because the students are so excited, have amazing questions, and love to get involved.

Our partnership with MPS has been a rewarding experience for our coworkers, allowing them to get involved on various levels. Translating recipes and working with bilingual students, helping tour the facility, mixing ingredients, and explaining the baking process are all part of the fun.

Thanks to MPS for stopping by. We're excited to share our expertise with the next generation of bakery professionals!
