He describes his work as sculptural vessels; the forms relate to reflections of both classical vessels and abstract the human figure and are fired in a large thirty-foot long anagama wood-firing kiln for five days.Chad Hartwig is a Research Associate who received his B.F.A. from University of Wisconsin-Superior before earning his M.F.A. from University of Notre Dame. His sculptural ceramics explore the agency / structure relationships between humanity and the natural environment. As a potter in an unrelated, yet similar manner, he also is interested in how fine-craft objects can elevate every day experiences from redundancy to aesthetically driven endeavor.Join us on Thursday, March 20 from 5-7pm for a reception with the artists.ABOUT NCECA - Material World, NCECA’s 48th Annual Conference, will be dedicated to the investigation of the complex ways that materials acquire meaning through the things that we make and those that surround us in our daily lives.
