Colectivo at The Big Central Regional Barista Competition

We're getting amped up for the U.S. Barista Championship's Big Central Regional Competition! As participants since 2007, we’d like to say we’re old pros by now, but we’ve learned that there’s always something new to discover and additional ways to hone our craft. Colectivo is proud to send baristas and judges to this year’s regional Barista Competition and Brewer's Cup, October 25-27 in Minneapolis. We'd love to see you there, as the entire event is free and open to the public!

The Big Central provides an exciting platform for those working in specialty coffee to elevate their craft. Some of the region’s most skilled baristas and brewers will come together in friendly but intense competition to prepare their very best cup of coffee or shots of espresso.

And the best part is, you don’t have to be a barista to enjoy barista competitions! Anyone is welcome to attend and the whole city gets involved. Plus Colectivo will be hosting a shindig on Friday, Oct. 25, at Architectural Antiques in Minneapolis!

During barista competitions, participants have 15 minutes to prepare and serve their best espresso, cappuccinos and signature beverages to a panel of judges. These judges scrutinize the drinks for flavor, body, balance, technique, and presentation. In the Brewers Cup, baristas have 10 minutes to brew their very best cup of fresh coffee, and judges use all their senses to select the winner, examining aroma, taste, body, and the barista’s presentation and methods.

Baristas are encouraged to make each performance unique with their own music playlist and of course, an exceptional personality! Judges look for competitors to exhibit a passion for the craft of specialty coffee while demonstrating cleanliness and a professional image.

Winners are declared after three exciting, coffee-filled days of competition and are allowed preferred slots at the U.S. Barista Championship.

Free coffee abounds during the event, so you can experience what’s on cutting edge of the coffee world. Big Central, and U.S. Barista Championship events are all about showing off the talent of baristas and brewers, acknowledging their hard work and getting people excited about the precise, detailed craft of coffee!
